What is the best way to get from Paris to Venice?
I'm going to Venice from Paris in September 2010, and was just wondering what's the best option to go to Venice from Paris. If by plane, what's the best airport, airline to fly?
I did read old blogs, posts online about the same question but seems like the answers are a few years old.

The cheapest and quickest would be to fly. It does not have the same character as taking a night train, though.
If you are flying, take a look at the flights with Ryanair at http://www.ryanair.com , Air Berlin at http://www.airberling.com or EasyJet at http://www.easyjet.com - these are all discount airlines that can get you to Venice quickly and cheaply. From Paris, the best airport is the one where your flight is departing from - simple as that. If you are staying in the city itself, there really is not a huge benefit of travelling out to one airport over another. Arriving in Venice on the other hand, is preferable if you arrive at Marco Polo International Airport, as it is right on the edge of the lagoon where Venice is located. The nice thing about it is the options you have to get into Venice itself. You can either take an inexpensive bus or taxi, or you can take the more scenic water route by either splurging on a water taxi or by taking the airport boat line with details at http://www.alilaguna.it/index.en.html
If you want to take the train, you can ride a night train from Paris to Venice, with a total travel time of about 13 hours. The cost will vary based on the kind of accommodation you want, with a private compartment being very expensive. You can take a look at prices and schedules on the French rail website at http://www.tgv-europe.com and you can even book online. Just remember that you typically can only book a trip up to 90 days in advance of the current day.
Although flying will be quite a bit less expensive, remember too that if you fly, that means you will have to pay for an extra night of accommodation in either Paris or Venice, and you will also need to pay for the transportation to/from the airports. If you are taking the train, you would be departing from Paris Bercy station, which is accessible easily from the metro line, and will be arriving at Venezia Santa Lucia station, which is located in Venice at the end of the causeway and is the end of the line for both trains and automobiles. From there it is a mild walk to anywhere in Venice, or you can take a vaporetto (water bus).
