There are a variety of causes of stomach cramps. The most common causes are menstrual and digestive. This is despite the name. Menstrual cramps can be located higher in your abdomen, so are often called stomach cramps.
When you suffer with these cramps, you often find yourself doubling up to give yourself some relief. Or you lie down in a foetal position, that is curled up, with your legs pulled up as far as they will comfortably come.
When you unconsciously put yourself in this position, it means that the pain you are experiencing is relieved by pressure. If it was worse for pressure, you’d do the opposite - arch your back.
Learning these subtle body signs is critical to treating yourself with homeopathic medicines, as your selection of the right medicine relies almost entirely on these signs and symptoms.
So it matters much less whether your stomach cramps are from a digestive upset or a period pain. It matters more what your unique symptoms are.
You may also crave heat on your stomach, so get a hot wheat pack or hot water bottle, or go to bed with the electric blanket on high.
If your stomach cramp has these two strong symptoms - better for pressure AND heat, then the homeopathic medicine Magnesium phosphoricum (Mag phos for short) is likely to banish them.
Mag phos is available from health stores as a tissue salt, or in potency (stronger) from homeopaths and homeopathic pharmacies. The stronger the medicine, the more likely it will work more quickly. But the tissue salt is also likely to do you a great deal of good.
Mag phos is often called the homeopathic analgaesic as it is so good at resolving pain. But not just any old pain. The pain must feel better for heat and pressure.
