Black Hawk
What year did the Black Hawk War take place and why did it take place?
My daughter needs more help she needs to know when the Black Hawk War started and why it started. She forgot her textbook at school and nees some help.(I know nothing about any of this)
Year 1993, October. Started with Operation Restore Hope. Marines were sent to Mogadishu, Somolia to restore order and peace from rival clans fighting for control of the city. Marines restored order and fed the civilians but when they left all hell broke loose again. Mohammed Farrah Addid, a rival clan leader, took control of Mogadishu and started to starve everyone that was not on his side. The U.S. sent U.S. Army Rangers, 10th Mountain Division, and Delta Force (U.S. says they supposedly don't exist.) The mission was to capture Mohammed Farrah Addid and take him out of control of the Mog, as Rangers called it. On October 3, 1993, the U.S. launched an assualt on a building that Mohammed Farrah Addid was thought to be in. The mission was supposed to last 30 minutes but lasted about a day. 2 Black Hawk helicopters were shot down and 19 men were killed. Two snipers recieved the Medal of Honor, the highest medal a military man can get, after risking thier lives for a Black Hawk pilot, Mike Durant, who survived the crash. After this the U.S. pulled out of Somolia.
